Your name or any nicknames you have?

On the river in my buff, my buddies call me the trout terrorist (don’t worry, I catch and release)

Where are you at in the world? Where will you be fishing this year?

I live in Boulder, Colorado. I’ll be fishing all throughout Colorado and a few trips up to Wyoming.

What river(s) and lake(s) do you guide/fish?

I fish everything from bass ponds to alpine lakes, small creeks to big rivers. My favorite rivers are the Gunnison, Blue, Colorado, and the Roaring Fork.

How long have you been guiding/fly fishing?

I have been fly fishing for about 8 years.

What got you into fly fishing? When did you start?

My first fly fishing trip was to the Miracle Mile in Wyoming. What got me into fly fishing is the incredible places that sport takes you.

Why do you fly fish?  What does it “do” for you?

I fly fish because it allows me to “reset”. It is one of the few things that disconnects me from society and is very powerful way to recharge.

If you own and use a Rod Vault, what do you like about you Rod Vault?

I own 2 rod vaults, and I need a 3rd! Because I fish so many different types of water, I have a rod for almost any scenario. Nymphing is the most productive for me, and a lot of my rods have 3 nymph setups with an indicator and I hate breaking those rods down. Plus, they look sweet!

What is a piece of advice you want to give to other anglers or a tip/trick that has helped you grow as an angler?

For lake anglers, don’t always follow the general rule of “lakes fish best at sunrise and sunset”. I have caught some of my biggest trout and pike early afternoon. For river anglers, don’t let weather dictate your fishing trip. I once caught 8 trout when it was below 0 and snowing on the Yampa!

Who has influenced you most as an angler?

My buddy rob, who took me on my first fly fishing trip. For some reason, every time we get on the water together, we catch big ones!

What’s your favorite new piece of gear?

My Fishpond sling pack. I used to fish with a vest and the sling pack is much more convenient. It’s more comfortable making long casts with your chest free of gear.

What is your favorite fly? (To tie, or catch fish on?)

Big Chubbys!

Best catch of all time?

My first large rainbow. I landed a 26′ rainbow trout on a streamer.

What’s your “Dream Trip”?

Christmas Island.

What are some of the best places you’ve been fishing?

1) Wind River Mountains in Wyoming.

2) Black Canyon of the Gunnison
